Microsoft Fabric and Argus PBI

At Build, Microsoft announced its new unified data platform initiative, branded as "Fabric". In brief, Fabric brings technologies from other parts of the data lifecycle into the Power BI experience. The potential value proposition of this is to make these powerful technologies more accessible to the business and data analysts who use Power BI, and to unify the management and operations experience into a single platform. There are also some notable technical innovations regarding OneLake and the adaptation of the Vertipaq engine to understand parquet.

At Argus, we simplify Power BI Operations. But what does that mean now that so many more technologies have been annexed into the Power BI experience?

Because Argus works with the available management API's the great news is that these new objects are automtatically included in the Argus Data Lineage and User Activity reports. You can see below that, since we enabled the Fabric preview during the conference last week, Argus already began picking up activities related to warehouses and artifacts, no changes required.

These artifacts don't always relate to a specific dataset or report, so our reports will be updated to reflect this new reality. But you can start to sense the much greater number of objects available when you look at the new create screen. What used to show only this…

Now shows this Data Engineering and Data Factory content in a workspace with the Fabric preview enabled….

… and this Data Science and Data Warehouse content …

…. and this Power BI content (finally) ….

…. and these Real-Time Analytics options.

As you can see, the scope of Power BI Operations is expanding. As Fabric moves through its public preview and toward general availability (GA), the need for whole-tenant monitoring and operational support will only increase. Microsoft is looking to build on the success they have found in Power BI; Argus PBI gives you the clarity and control of your Power BI to capitalize on that investment.
